Sjöwall, Rebecca Soprano
Rebecca Sjöwall, soprano, took her first voice lesson while pursuing her B.A. in Political Science at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. Last June she completed her Master's Degree in Vocal Performance at UCLA. This year she made her debut with West Bay Opera as Micaëla in Carmen. Current engagements include her debut with San Francisco Lyric Opera as Gilda in Rigoletto and as the Countess Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro with UCLA Opera. Previous roles include Pamina in Die Zauberflöte with the New Operafestival di Roma, La Marchesa di Poggio in Verdi's Un giorno di regno with Lyric Opera of Los Angeles and, at UCLA Opera, Alice Ford in Falstaff, Lucy in The Threepenny Opera and Helena in A Midsummer Night's Dream. She has performed in recital in Japan, Italy, the United States and Sweden. (3/2009)
