|As one of the most sought-after tenors of his generation, Charles Castronovo performs at the leading opera houses of the world, including the Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera, San Diego Opera, Opéra National de Paris, Staatsoper Berlin, Vienna Staatsoper, Salzburg Festival and Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.
He appeared in September-October 2010 at Los Angeles Opera, joined by Plácido Domingo in the world premiere of Daniel Catán’s Il Postino .
He also offered a program to the Opera Buffs, "Charles Castronovo's Italian Songbook."
Castronovo performed gratis for the Opera Buffs in appreciation of our assistance to him early in his career. “There are so few organizations like the Opera Buffs that help young singers to focus on their development and art,” says Castronovo. “To have had this support so early in my career has been a great help. Now, to have the chance to give a little back by singing this concert of beautiful Italian songs is almost like receiving a second gift from the Buffs.”
After receiving grants and performing with the Opera Buffs in 1995 and 1996, Castronovo entered the Los Angeles Opera Young Artists Program. He performed again with the Opera Buffs in 1998 and subsequently entered the Metropolitan Opera’s Lindemann Young Artists Development Program. From there his career took off across the United States and internationally. His CDs include Mozart’s La Clemenza di Tito, Leoncavallo’s I Pagliacci, Mercadante’s Virginia and Rossini’s Stabat Mater. His DVDs include Mozart’s Die Entführung. Musical selections by Castronovo may also be heard on YouTube and on his website, www.charlescastronovo.com.
